Solina and Lake Solina - the dam, cruises and water attractions

The largest dam in Poland, boat cruises, and the emerald surface of the largest artificial lake in the country. What you should know before visiting Solina.

If the mountain pastures are the heart of the Bieszczady Mountains, then Solina is their watery calling card. It's here that Poland's largest dam and the country's largest artificial reservoir are located—a place that attracts crowds of tourists every summer.

The Solina Dam

The Solina Dam was built in the 1960s and opened in 1968. Its massive concrete structure rises over 80 meters above the valley floor and is over 600 meters long. It dammed the waters of the San and Solinka rivers, creating Lake Solina . You can walk along the dam's crest, admiring the lake on one side and the San River valley on the other. A hydroelectric power plant also operates here.

Lake Solina

Lake Solina is the largest artificial reservoir in Poland. Its vast, winding shores and surrounding forested hills create a landscape reminiscent of mountain fjords. The main resorts on the lake are Solina and Polańczyk , with promenades, water sports rentals, and accommodations.

Boat trips

One of the most popular attractions is boat cruises on Lake Solina . During the summer season, boats depart regularly from the marinas in Solina and Polańczyk—from short, 30-minute trips to longer journeys. This is the best way to see the lake from the water and get a sense of the scale of the entire reservoir.

What else is there on Solina?

  • Water sports – kayaks, pedal boats, sailboats and scooters.
  • Walks along the promenades of Solina and Polańczyk, full of souvenir stalls and restaurants.
  • Viewpoints over the surrounding hills, offering a panoramic view of the entire lake.

Solina is the perfect day break from the mountain trails—especially for families with children. A boat cruise, a walk along the dam's crest, and a relaxing break by the water are Bieszczady classics that always work.
